Yes it is very exfoliating. Usually dry skin has an excess of dead skin cells that need to come off so that the skin can actually absorb the moisture you are trying to put on it with lotion. If your hands are feeling raw they could be too sensitive right now for exfoliation. If that's the case you probably want to just stick with barrier creams until they feel better. A really cheap one I hate to suggest because I hate petroleum products is vaseline. It won't add any moisture but will prevent loss of moisture while your skin heals. I'm sure many of the products recommended on this thread work as barrier creams- just look for products higher in oil than water. They aren't going to heal your skin but will protect it while it heals itself. After that, keep those hands exfoliated and moisturized so they don't get raw and sensitive.
