I see them go 600 and up around here. They usually stay around the 1000 dollar range though. That's not show quality though. Since you have a price from one person I'd suggest calling around to all the breeders within maybe a 3-4 hour drive radius and asking prices just to see what they are in your area and also maybe check the net to find breeders around you and thier prices. Then you'll know if the price that you've already seen is a price you'll be willing to pay.
Its kinda hard to say if its a good price or not. It may be where I am but not where you are. I understand though no one wants to get ripped off but in the end the only person who can decide if they got ripped off is that person themself. So if you feel like that is a good price and are happy paying it don't give it another thought.
