I also wash my girls every week - they attend doggie daycare every day during the work week and go for long walks on the weekend. Needless to say, they start to look a little rough by the time "bath day" rolls around. If they don't need their weekly bath, I'm convinced they didn't have enough fun that week.
I'm still trying out different shampoos myself, so I can't really help you there.
