I hardly every have to leave my furbabies, but when I do I leave them in my home and have a friend or petsitter come and stay with them there. I feel they will be more comfortable and miss me less that way. I'm so afraid of them getting loose if they are somewhere unfamiliar, trying to find their way home.

You are lucky to have dependable close people to watch them. Make sure your tag or microchip info is correct and current, and if God forbid they get lost, know who would be called. Put something in writing for your pet caregivers too, so they would have the authority to claim them.

Send along some of your clothing with your scent on it (shirt, robe, etc.) so your furbaby will feel your presence no matter where she is.
