I would keep doing the crate. I stopped because I'm a wimp and now I have a dog that won't crate. I had a pom before that we crated and he was so good about it after he got used to it. I really regret not crating Baxter. With the Pom we kept it right by the bed but I was much younger with more patience and I just let him cry until he got used to it. Baxter I got 18 years later when I am old and no patience!
