So glad he is back from the vet and doing a little better! Also, very happy to hear that's it's probably just gastritis, which should get better w/ the medications. I know the food doesn't sound the best to you, but if he likes it - and he feels better on it, you could always just give it temporarily, and then change it after he has been better for awhile.
