A friend's cat lived until he was 17 years. Can't recall exactly what it was that took him. It might have been cancer. He was an indoor cat that was let out but he chose to hang around either on their own yard or the neighbour's. Never much further. He was fed kibbles all of his life.

An old aunt of mine had hers for at leasat 20 years and it was an indoor apartment cat all of its life living in a warmer climate, not North America. She cooked fish daily for her cat.

Another one I know of passed around 16 years old and was an indoor cat who was fed wet canned food all of her life.

My cat will be 9 this year. She's always been on dry kibbles and strictly indoor house cat. After her first or second year, I've shared people food with her on few occassions. Her favourite's ice cream. I've stopped feeding her people food after she got more demanding so as not to "spoil" her into expecting people food all the time. I discourage "begging". She's only half way through her lifespan now, I believe, but she's considered "senior" and has suddenly put on weight as of last summer.
