I'm just thinking of Elaine's Newman...had a sore on his paw and it was cancer, don't remember the exact name. But on the other hand if he is known to lick and bite at it...it could very well be a callus, no harm unless infected. The vet should be able to tell you more specific whether or not it looks like something of concern. Wish him well, as always.
