Question Behavior problem--dogs suddenly fighting

I have 2 yorkies--Sophie (1.5 yrs) and Lila (2.5 yrs). I have only had Lila for three months. The two dogs took a while to warm up to one another, but have been best buddies for a while. They sleep together and play a lot, kiss each other, etc.

On Friday Lila was sick so I took her to the vet. She was there all day on an IV. I brought her home on Friday night. The two dogs lay together, and later Sophie wanted to play but Lila was still sick and not interesed. Sophie suddenly became vicious and attacked Lila. I chalked this up to Sophie being frustrated.

Lila was at the vet again all day yesterday. When I brought her home last night, all bets were off. There was no way to even have the two in the same room. Sophie was just going at her. I'd break it up, give her a time-out, and she'd start right up again. I had to move their crates to different parts of the room so they could not see one another.

Today, same story. I gave Lila a bath because I thought maybe the problem was associated with her smell, and I have been doing "crate & rotate" all day in Sophie's crate only.

I've never seen Sophie so aggressive, and it's very disconcerting. If you have any insight I'd appreciate it. Thank you.
