It's never too late!
My guess is that she can sit just fine. Do a search on how to teach a dog to sit, it's pretty simple. If you are really concerned, try teaching her "down". That's very easy. Just put a treat in your hand, and then lower your hand to the floor. She should naturally follow you. Then give her the treat.
