I have a 15 year old high functioning autistic son. I got Lola for him as he has a service dog at school. He feeds her, takes her out, helps with grooming etc. It teaches him responsibility. Not to mention it forces interaction. We all know the therapeutic value of a pet. He just adores her.

His teacher and behavior specialist have both contacted my landlord and asked them to reconsider. For now I can keep her but I have to show proof of license, spay. shots, insurance, all kinds of stuff. I can keep her pending them contacting their attorney regarding liability issues. Ridiculous. It's not like she's a rotty/pitbull. She goes out for less than a minute to do her business. SHE'S AN INSIDE DOG!! So...for now we're safe. I just need to ride it out and see how it plays out. Keep us in your prayers!

Hi there !
You and i have A couple of things in common. My son is also 15 yrs old and has high functioning autism. I know how you feel .
I am also disabled too. I was able to obtain my Suzi as a service animal by getting a doctor to write a letter, stating that a service animal would be benificial.
Be sure the Doctor writes , Service Dog in the letter though. It has to say that in order to meet the law's regulations. It is a request for resonable accomadation . People with disabilites can request this and the law allows service animals in no pets places. As long as it does not require the owners to change the struture of the place of insurance pre. to go up, then they have to make reasonable accomadations for the disabled.
Suzi is the best service animal for my son and I ! We are very happy with her and feel lucky to have her a part of our lives. I wish you and your son all the best!
