  You don't need a lawyer for small claims, in fact, I don't think you are supposed to have one for it.  All of your receipts and any emails from her should be enough.  Small claims isn't like a murder trial, so you don't need dna proof that she screwed you over. I don't understand the concern over AKC papers if you aren't breeding.  Honestly I would be more upset that you didn't get the dog you were shown and told you were going to get.  What would you need papers for at this point?  If it's just the principal of it all, I would still go on it being a different dog, since that to me seems to be the most deceiving part of the purchase.  If it were the right dog, and you were breeding, I would be concerned over registration papers.
