Try an x-pen before you crate her. Put her bed, toys, food/water, and pee pads if she needs them into the x-pen -- away from anything else she can chew. Leave her chewy things, Kong or rawhides, so she has something to do while mom is away.

I'm sure this is a stressful time for both of them. Good luck resolving this problem.

Also put the potty pad on one of those trays that petsmart uses to prevent the pup from chewing that up! Works for mine!
