It will irritate her which I am honestly okay with because it can't hurt her and it won't restrict her from anything except barking.
Sadly, positive reinforcement and praising doesn't stop her undesirable behaviors. Even when someone comes to the door, if she doesn't know or doesn't like them, she barks and barks and barks. Obvioulsy that isn't very welcoming for people and it really does need to stop. Even if when people came in they gave her a treat (which isn't going to work with strangers anyway), she would probably just take it and keep barking. When she is really "out of it" barking at something, she doesn't really even accept treats. Honestly, she is at the level where if I had to have the vacuum or mop out all day, she would need to be drugged. This just isn't healthy for her, so I think it would be better to try to use sound diversion than to let this go on if it isn't necessary.
Pennies in a can, besides not working for long, irritates us along with her. Spraying water only works sometimes and that is when you spray her face...not relaly healthy. So I find those methods worthless for us...
