Well, I don't think the mom that lost her babies would hurt the other ones, she would probably gladly accept them but then the owner would be right back in the same situation where the one female might try to get them back. If these females got along just fine before the puppies were born then there is no reason to rehome the poor momma that lost her babies. It was not either of the dogs fault. The female I had that killed the two pups is still with me. She is 9 years old now and she was always a wonderful mother and she also helped raise other females pups before. It is just common for mommas with new pups to be very protective. No matter how sweet mine are, once they have pups, I do not take any chances.
Tell you friend to make sure the momma has some privacy. I always hang sheets on the side of the x-pen so the momma feels more like she is in a den. It also cuts down on the drafts. If other dogs are looking in at them it makes them nervous. That is probably why the momma is moving her puppies around. |
