Default Rilee & Me

This is our first post in Yorkie Talk. I was so glad to find this forum. Rilee is my first Yorkie. She's almost 5 years old and we've had her since she was 10 weeks old. To say that she runs our house is an understatement!

Rilee has very curly hair. She is pure-bred Yorkshire terrier. It's difficult to let her hair grow out, so we keep her in a puppy cut but hates to be groomed.

Are curly haired yorkie's a common thing? I've never seen one until her.

My problem is that she chews and scratches herself all the time. She is flea free, her coat and skin look great. We bathe her once a week with a mild natural shampoo and for a few days, she doesn't chew and scratch quite as much. She's on a natural dry food free of wheat, corn, or beef. But about half-way through the week, she starts to smell like frito corn chips, and the chewing comes back.

Any ideas as to what I might look for? Does it hurt to bathe them more than once per week?

Glad I found the site!!!!
