We swear by
Pawz Disposable Boots! They keep the ice balls out from between dogs' toes and even the tiniest dogs keep them on. Dogs seem to adjust to wearing them really quickly, I think it's because they can still "feel" the ground through the boots. I know they look like balloons, but they work! Pawz come in sizes from Tiny ($12 for a set of 12) to Extra Large ($16 per set).
We find that most dogs can wear a set 6 to 8 times before they need to be replaced.
