Glad you are taking Pixel to the vet. Labs personalities generally are so good that they tend to get along with most dogs, but as a puppy, and for about 3 years they can be quite a handful. I'm not sure if it's always best to have a companion for your dog, but with a timid dog, I would think you would want one that is closer to his size. I think you are making a wise choice on rehomeing the other dog, and perhaps you can arrange some play dates with Pixel, and the Lab, if that doesn't stress him too much. Perhaps investing in a dog trainer who could help Pixel overcome his socialization problems might be of benefit.
