They are for the most part, nocturnal. Although, last winter I did seen
one in the field while I was standing at my kitchen window. He looked busy...like he was burying something in the snow. It's not unheard of to see them in daylight, but they do most of their hunting after dusk. They are somewhat timid if you seen one by itself, but when they are in a pack they will be more aggressive.
I don't know what the hunting laws are in your area, but around here they are so over populated that they are considered varment and as long as you have a hunters permit, you can hunt them. If you have any friends/family that hunt, you may want to consider giving them a call.
