I've had good experiences with Yorkies & children. However, the children should be old enough to understand how to handle a small dog. If you get an adult Yorkie, it'll depend on individual personality. You'll want to get a larger one, e.g., greater than 7 lbs. A pup could be an issue with a 4 year old.
