My older, male yorkie is quite territorial over me, if he feels like someone is trying to pull him away from me and he doesn't want to move he will snap. But I have taken him to a lot of different places with me and he has never acted that way just from a stranger approaching wanting to pet him.
If you are really interested in the dog, you can always try going to her home to see the behavior in the home. That would also give you a chance to see the types of personalities that are in the house with the dog.
