I started cutting my yorkies hair myself after 5 dogs and not being able to afford getting them all groomed professionaly. I was really scared at first, but got the courage and believe me....they all had really bad haircuts at first. But with practice and several cuts later, I got it...well almost

I bought mens clippers for the butt area, and for the rest of the body I use comb and scissors. Usually my husband holds them down for me while I cut. I just pull out a few hairs in the ears that I think might tickle them. Good Luck and remember...trial and error, you'll do fine.
