Imagine dropping a toddler off at daycare and sitting outside the window the whole day but the toddler cant get to you. I hope this makes sense.
Every once in a while, a dog who doesnt get groomed often enough or who has been abused by someone will freak out when the scissors get by their eyes or by their feet etc, and we will call their owners for them to come back and HOLD the dog and SEE how they behave. We use that to educate the parent on how the dog acts when groomed and to show it either cant be completed or cant be completed easily, to help them work with their dog, and more importantly bring them more often so we can work more with the dog, and earn their trust. The dog is very stressed when he is matted, when he has been hurt, when he is scared because he doesnt come often enough, and that is not fair to him/her. It makes for a frustrated groomer who really does care about the dogs well being. But groomers should really be well saught out and preferably for the dogs sake, stuck with, when possible, for the dogs comfort level as well as yours (they will know what you want and you wont get surprise haircuts you didnt ask for.
Hope this was helpful, because it may not be easiest on your dog and especially not the groomer when you are watching from the window. But you can always ask the groomer if your dog is better when you are there or not. All dogs are individual, you never know. =))
Blessings,
Kiera | I completely agree with you as not all dogs will react the same. My baby is usually does better when I am there for her when the groomer gets to her face.. I just look at her from far when the groomer does her face and she will fidget a little but she is on her best behavior. =). Some dogs may not do so good with the owners there cause they want to just go to their parents..But the muzzle idea, I dont think its such a bad idea, only for the face hair trimming.. |
