Not all dogs may get along with other dogs and I heard some bad reviews about Petsmart daycare.. but I don't think you are too late on the training for Tiki. I think he can learn still.
The groomer can put a muzzle on him for the face if anything but, why don't you try a groomer where you or your husband can stay to watch tiki get groomed. Maybe when he is next to Tiki when the groomer cuts around the face, Tiki will be calmer. I think Tiki will do this for any other groomer. Mimi does not do well around the face either, but I stay their so she knows better not to bite the groomer.

Hi Belinda...dogs usually would prefer to be with their owners than the groomer/ pro handler etc.(no matter how nice they are), so if people stay and watch, dogs usually are anxious...leaping...dancing around, not staying still or being calm (not conducive to safety with scissors by the eyes)...basically wanting Mommy and Daddy. Imagine dropping a toddler off at daycare and sitting outside the window the whole day but the toddler cant get to you. I hope this makes sense.
Every once in a while, a dog who doesnt get groomed often enough or who has been abused by someone will freak out when the scissors get by their eyes or by their feet etc, and we will call their owners for them to come back and HOLD the dog and SEE how they behave. We use that to educate the parent on how the dog acts when groomed and to show it either cant be completed or cant be completed easily, to help them work with their dog, and more importantly bring them more often so we can work more with the dog, and earn their trust. The dog is very stressed when he is matted, when he has been hurt, when he is scared because he doesnt come often enough, and that is not fair to him/her. It makes for a frustrated groomer who really does care about the dogs well being. But groomers should really be well saught out and preferably for the dogs sake, stuck with, when possible, for the dogs comfort level as well as yours (they will know what you want and you wont get surprise haircuts you didnt ask for.
Hope this was helpful, because it may not be easiest on your dog and especially not the groomer when you are watching from the window. But you can always ask the groomer if your dog is better when you are there or not. All dogs are individual, you never know. =))
Blessings,
Kiera
