It does sound like allergies...This happened to Miko at the beginning of 2008, and it turned out that he was allergic to a new blanket that I had bought (not for him, it was mine)...I hadn't washed it yet, and I guess even having it in the same room as him was causing him problems...As soon as I figured out it could be the blanket (since it was the only different thing since he started the dry hacking cough followed by throwing up white foam), I eliminated the culprit, and he recovered quickly...No more coughing at all.
The only thing that will make it go away for good is finding out the root of his problems.
Have you bought anything new for the house? rug, blanket, clothes, new detergent, etc?
