i was reading something online about this before.. not about dog food but about like potato chips. we sell snacks and stuff where i work and we always throw out the chips that are out of the best if eaten by date or whatever..
anyways, i read that the products that say "best if used by" means that the manufacturer recommends using the product by that date for the best flavor/quality & that its NOT a food safety date. so i guess like the taste and nutrient value gradually changes after that date but it doesnt mean the food is expired. so its more of a freshness date i guess?
i'd just go back there and swap it out for a newer one. either it doesn't sell and its been sitting there for a while or people that work there probably put the newer food in the front/on top instead of going by the dates and pulling the older food to the front so people by that first. who knows.
