Yes, scratching can be caused by food allergies. My dog has several food allergies but is now on a prescription diet for liver issues. My other yorkie (who does not have a liver disease) eats Wellness superfive chicken kibble and it is very high quality. It is sold at Whole Foods Market and also is now being carried by Petco. You might want to try it, I think it is very good and high quality. P.S. it can take weeks after switching back before symptoms resolve! If it persists, I would consider a consult with a veterinary dermatologist if you have one in your area as this was great for our dog and we resolved her allergy issues after YEARS of changing food and driving ourselves and our dog nuts. Good luck!
