Doggie steps will help. If He gets used to using doggie steps they may save some wear and tear on his "knees" and other leg joints by not having the impact/jolt of his 11 lbs hitting the floor. Have you tried tempting him with a treat? Throw it up on the couch and see if he figures out how to jump or "climb" to get the treat. I cringe when Zack and Zeke go leaping off our pillow mattress. It's so high off the floor that DW's feet do not touch the tiles but then she's only 5'2". Strange, I do not any problems at 6'3" (hehe).
