I'm having the same problem with Joey. Yesterday he walked onto the paper, sniffed around while I happily watched, squatted, then jumped off the pad and pooped on the carpet right next to it. I'm going to try laying down another pad and see what happens. He might just decide to find a new corner. He is also trained to go outside with my older Yorkie, who is completely housebroken (it took 10 months of diligent effort) and will do so, but he definitely prefers pooping in the house and I would rather he use the paper than my carpet.
