There are four things that Yorkies can be doing to make that type of noise, and each are different from the other. The reverse sneezing is when you see their rib cage expand and the sides sink in while they do this, and yes, emotions can trigger it or even drinking water. There is another thing some do and it's called "honking", because it sounds like a goose. My Zada does this and has nothing to do with the reverse sneeze. Another thing they have problems with and it sounds like a reverse sneeze, is a soft or collapsed trachea. This is one reason they should not be led by a collar. Their trachea's are very small and soft and easily damaged. The last type is Kennel cough. This also causes them to make some retching sounds and then let out a "hack" like sound.
