If the yelping does not work then try snapping at him like his mother would. Snap and nip at his neck. It's the scare, not causing pain.
The lip fold sounds painful, un-natural and unnecessary. If it hurts you when he bites you, it is also going to hurt him when he bites his own lip.
They understand dog language.
After the yelp, you need to move away from them for a while so they also make the association that you don't want to play if they don't play nice.
