You have to grow a third arm to get great pics! lol
What I usually do is find a toy or treat that they like and use it as bait. I hold the toy right over the camera lens -- my lens is long so I usually sit the item on my lens. It gets them looking at the camera. It takes constant talking to them to keep their attention and lots of "stay, stay, stay" and "good boy" comments usually.
Keep trying because you'll end up with that one miracle photo that you ABSOLUTELY love!
The ratio of keepers to total pics is usually not that great - even for me - a photographer trying to photograph her own dogs.
It is always more difficult to photograph your own dogs and children than if someone else did it.
