Also, DNA testing isn't required if the breeder produces under a certain amount of liters each year. In addition, many people thought there puppy was eligible for registration, but when they tried to get the papers, they found the breeder has lied to them.
With registration, you get a nice puppy packet, with many coupons and a really nice dog tag. We opted for the lifetime lost and found option and for an additional $15.00 had his microchip number listed with them. Many breeders have been suspended from the AKC, and alternative registries are popping up that in my opinion are worthless, so I would not register my dogs with the alternative registries, I can find no reasons to support them.
Remember the AKC is the only registry that does routine unannounced inspections. With state laws becoming stricter, they can get rid of some of the poor breeders, and puppy millers, but it takes money to do those inspections.
Buster's adorable, and we have a teapot club! | I agree. Even though most of anything I breed, sell or place goes on limited reg...I always ask that the new owner reg their pups/dogs with the AKC. It helps to fund inspection's.
