I don't think they need to play all the time. In fact, I have nap time every morning and afternoon for mine. They go to their crates and are in there for 30-90 minutes each day. usually they sleep because little guys get tired out and need that time to regroup.
As long as your little guy isn't crying, I wouldn't worry at all. He's just resting until you are ready for him to play with you some more.
