When you use Nutri-cal, it is very important to follow with a few bites of a high carb food - rice, potato, even bread or better yet a few bites of their regular food. The reason you need to follow the Nutri-cal with food is because it enters the blood system very quickly giving the burst of energy, but the burst only lasts about 20 minutes -- those few bites of food will help prevent a "crash".

One more thought - I have found that giving just a tiny bit of Nutri-cal (I'm talking English Pea size) will help boost the appetite. Too much will raise the blood sugar level enough to take away the appetite.

Wishing the you guys the very best of luck. Sure hope your baby gets to come home soon, I know you must be lost without her.
Okay, good to know that too much Nutri-Cal will take away her appetite. Also good to know about the burst of energy, then the crash. I have so much to learn!

Well, I just went to check on Meg again. One of the vet techs was scratching her behind the ear and she did the "I'm itchy" sign (whatever that looks like?). He checked her ear and it turns out she has a nasty ear infection. I don't believe it! The poor thing must have a horrible immune system. Apparently there was a lot of pus and discharge. She is now getting an ear antibiotic (third antibiotic's the charm?). I don't know how much more of this I can take!!! It's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel right now.
