Unfortunately the dog food industry is just damn shady right now, and it's a very scary thing. There are plenty on here who have resorted to homecooking, raw and prey-model raw to get away from commercial kibble. I think the key is to do your own research, so you can feel confident in what to feed your baby. It's easy to ask and get an answer, and just go with that suggestion without doing your own research. I prefer to do my own research, ask opinions about the particular method/brand and then use that information to make my own choice. But I'm sure you will gets lots of input shortly!! |

Generally speaking- stay clear of anything with bi-products listed in its ingredients. Stay away from corn as many dogs are allergic to it. Look for ingredients that you recognize chicken, fish, veggies, rice, potato...
If you are looking for somewhere to start- some brands that I would probably feed (i home cook) are Wellness, Merricks has a new food- Before Grain- I personally like grain free foods but that is just preference..... Nature's Variety has a few great kibbles... Orijen has had a few controversies in the past- but I still think it is a good food.
good luck Its hard and daunting- but you have to feel good about what you feed... and to me that means feeding the best ingredients possible. |

we feed Nature's Variety RAW medallions & Nature's Variety instinct canned (venison). we also feed Ziwi Peak. and rotate a few other RAW foods as well.. such as The Honest Kitchen & Primal.
we leave kibble out 24-7 (just in case..) but they don't eat much of it.. their main diet consists of what i listed above!

the kibble we are feeding at the moment is Nature's Variety Instinct!
good luck!!
