there was a rotweiler in Shorty's puppy training class, he was around 3 monthes at the time, he was playing a bit rough with the little ones in the class at the beginning, but after a few weeks of training, he got much better.
I would think its possible but just needs lots of training and supervision. and on top of that, remember that they should be separated when not under supervision, no matter how gentle a large breed dog can be, its quite possible for them to hurt the little ones unitentionally.
