My little Neenie will have surgery next month. She has a mammary tumor that seems to be getting bigger. I gave her a haircut the other day... that's when I really noticed how large it has gotten. I found a great husband & wife vet team; they perform surgeries on small pets together all the time and were quite confident that she was going to come out of it very well. I talked with them at length yesterday and they suggested I should have her spayed at the same time. They also mentioned that dogs and cats love pureed baby food, i.e. chicken, beef, turkey. If you have problems getting your little one to eat, that seems to do the trick for them. Neenie is a very picky eater and sometimes doesn't eat at all. With her weighing only 2 lbs 8.6 oz., she doesn't have a lot to spare. I will try the baby food and see how it works for me. Because these small dogs are prone to hypoglycemia, they seem to get "stupid" when they are going without food too long and not realize that they indeed are hungry and need to eat. So, sometimes you just have to force feed. My son and I are delighted to have our little girl taken care of soon. I am also glad that the price of the surgery seems to be very reasonable. Good news all the way around.
