Harley was about 6.5 months when he was neutered. I haven't seen any change in his personality since. When he went in he weighed 4.5 lbs and had no problems at all. My vet keeps both spay and neuter patients over night, and when we picked him up the next day it was as if nothing happened! My vet will not neuter before 6 months.
