Have you thought about creating an icon you like or even a transparent icon? This site allows you to make and download an icon:
Online Icon Maker - create your own icons in an online free editor.. You could replace your current icons with transparent one. You would still need lettering as in "my computer", but you can set the lettering the same color as your screen picture, so it will disappear too. This advice is only good for the truly anal.
