Am I being selfish b/c i live alone and got a dog for company? |
How old is your yorkie and how long have you had him? I don't think you should rehome him, he sounds like he (and you) would benefit from getting another yorkie!! I have a 7 year old female that I have had for a year. I got a 6 month old male over the Thanksgiving Holiday and that was one of the best things I could do for my adult dog. Even with the age difference, it has worked out well, they are good companions for one another and that help me not to feel guilty when I have to leave them now because I am not leaving a dog at home alone. They did not bond right away and still have their "moments!" But it's just like with children sometimes they play together and sometimes they have their disagreements. Although they did not bond right away, it was really less than a week before the older dog accepted the puppy. Prior to bringing the puppy home, I gave the breeder a blanket with my yorkie and my scent on it and brought home a blanket with the puppy and breeder scent on it. I kept the blanket in the kennels and I think that helped them adjust to one another. The breeder also told me that opposite sex tend to get along better with one another than the same sex. Don't rehome, unless you feel you don't want the responsibility of keeping your current dog.
