The north end is residential...the beach is public but there aren't any hotels.

The major hotel chains are located at the resort area but I honestly don't know which are pet friendly. I know LaQuinta is but don't think there's one down there.

There are several dog parks...the closest to the oceanfront is probably 8-10 miles from the oceanfront. Located on Shore Dr. This park does have frisbee golf. There are stands set up...and yep you aim your frisbee for the hole.

There is lots to do for the kids...unfortunately without the dogs. There's the Va Marine Science Museum (aquarium), Ocean Breeze (water park with other attractions...like go carts, rides, mini golf), water sport equipment rentals...jet skis, boats, fishing charters, high speed boat tours, surfing, dolphin watching tours, another fun tour is via Blackbeard's pirate ship. The crew is all dressed in pirate themed clothing, and tell stories of the pirates along Va's coasts.

Close by in Norfolk...you can see the Tides play baseball in the riverfront stadium. The Tides are the farm team for the Mets. Nauticus is located in Norfolk also...it's a maritime museum...the retired battleship Wisconsin is moored there and you're able to go on board. There are several river tours ....Spirit of Norfolk is a dinner cruise, American Rover is a sailboat, and the Carrie B. All of these will take you past the world's largest naval base and harbor. Impressive if you have never seen these ships up close and fun to be on the water. Both the Spirit and Carrie B have open decks on the roofs...American Rover...well it's open everywhere. LOL

Williamsburg - The colonial area is dog friendly, but you aren't allowed to take them inside the exhibits. Meaning you can walk them through the area but not inside...ie governor's mansion and such. There's lots of shopping in Merchant's Square and also TONS of outlets. Busch Gardens is located in Williamsburg, along with Water Country USA. If you have a golfer in the family....King's mill is also located in Williamsburg. This course holds several pro golfer's tournaments.

HTH.
