We have a sticker on our front door. Our vet provided it, and we can put the number of pets and the type (1 cat, 1 dog). With the vet's name and number, the fire fighters also have a number to call as well. I know that this is not perfect. My daughter has an alarm system that covers break-ins, fires, etc. That allows the fire fighters to get there before the fire has spread too far. Much for expensive, but it is more likely to save the animal. When I was in college we watched at a fire across from our classroom (at a home), and they pulled out a cat (I believe) and gave it mouth to snout-saved it I have seen this on the news here as well. Our fire fighters do everything they can to save pets. They are family. Recently a young couple died of carbon monoxide poisoning in their home. Their little dog lived, for a short time, and there was a story in the paper about the day they had to put that poor baby down.
