I use the very tiny latex rubber bands. They are the kind that might be used by girls who like to do the tiny braids, or add beads to their hair. I find that Lexi's hair doesn't usually get tangled, but often I will just snip them out rather than risk possible breakage.
Ladymom (who sells the most adorable clips!) sells scissors that are perfect for cutting out these little bands. They are very small, and one blade has a notch at the end. You just slip this notch into the band, and snip!
