We're terrible in he training department. we went through basic training with Miss Daisy (she was our first ever dog) and she learned to walk/heel, but when we did go for walks, we decided that the walk was for her, not for us, and she took so much pleasure exploring her environment and we in watching her, that we never enforced the proper walking methods. We weren't going anywhere, anyway. Who cares if we stop to smell a hydrant here or there?
My sister-in-law thinks we're nuts - when she goes for a walk, she's going going going, and our pups hold her up. But I don't know. We meander. Up the street, around the yard, through life. The pups have us trained, I guess, not the other way around. But I'm OK with that; I see a lot more of our neighborhood than I ever did before, and if I happen to know where the trees most likely to harbor squirrels are, that could be a valuable skill someday.
Ben | Oh you are right too. I take keely on our special walks , And thats a time where she has all the freedom she can have (Ussually through the trails in the woods or on a open feild) And she knows the command "okay go" And she knows that she can walk freely and explore. But i find it to risky while walking/jogging on the street because of cars (I live in a very small area with very few cars but its still a safety issue.) But on the daily walks and joggs she has to be very proper about it. I love how cesar explains the "Head held high, ears back, going with the flow" method. Because you have so much more control when the dog/s are on the side of you rather then in front of you.And that is particuraly good for jogging and burning off the energy fast. But i am definatly against bike riding with such small dogs.Waaaaay too risky. Even though i would LOVE to be able to take keely and go for a bike ride |
