Keely_momma, you're right. if you want your dog to jog with you, train them to do it right.

We're terrible in he training department. we went through basic training with Miss Daisy (she was our first ever dog) and she learned to walk/heel, but when we did go for walks, we decided that the walk was for her, not for us, and she took so much pleasure exploring her environment and we in watching her, that we never enforced the proper walking methods. We weren't going anywhere, anyway. Who cares if we stop to smell a hydrant here or there?

My sister-in-law thinks we're nuts - when she goes for a walk, she's going going going, and our pups hold her up. But I don't know. We meander. Up the street, around the yard, through life. The pups have us trained, I guess, not the other way around. But I'm OK with that; I see a lot more of our neighborhood than I ever did before, and if I happen to know where the trees most likely to harbor squirrels are, that could be a valuable skill someday.
