- I volunteer at a no-kill shelter that gets its pets from other shelters in the area that do euthanize. Ie, someone goes and gets the dogs who are on the chopping block. So you'd think these dogs are the least desirable, right? After all, they ended up at a shelter AND were not selected once at that shelter. But seriously, I'm stunned at how great these animals are, and they are often gorgeous as well. It blows my mind that these animals, which end up being fabulous pets, almost lost their lives.
- In these rough economic times, many more animals are abandoned simply because people cannot afford to care for them.
- On a more positive note, if you rescue an animal, it is more of a known quantity. The shelter will be up front with you about any issues it's observed, and will probably ask your entire family to meet the dog to ensure a good match.
Best of luck to you! There's a special place in heaven for people who rescue pets. | YES...there are total GEMS in shelters every day! I shared some before and after pics recently...if you want to see some to show your hubby, let me know! |
