It could be that he's not neutered and it could be that he's trying to be dominate. YOU need to establish your role in the house and show him that YOU are alpha. When he gets nasty, put him on his back and say no... he will fight you but DO NOT let him go until he stops. See, when dogs roll on their backs, that is their way of submitting and this forces him to submit and you prove your dominance. You should nip this in the bud before it gets worse.
