Baby Gabby was born with multiple birth defects. For starters, her bladder was crushed down against her pelvic bone and never developed. Abdominal surgery repositioned it upward and tacked it to her abdominal wall so it would have the room and a chance to grow. It has now developed to half-size so Gabby now has some urinary continence. No further bladder growth is expected. This fixed her chronic UTI. Gabby was also born with a hard and soft cleft palate. Multiple surgeries failed to fully resolve this issue, so Gabby is being evaluated for a surgical prosthesis, an artificial implant to "fill" the gap in her hard palate (the top of her mouth) and close off her sinuses from her mouth. Despite all the major surgeries (four between August and December), Gabby is feeling great and has been a real trouper! Gabby's vet describes her as "one tough dog in one little body"! Her vet techs and surgeons love Gabby and treat her like their own!
