I always try to imagine like you said a comfortable temp for a baby - I do check it with my wrists and then I tend to make it just a little less warmer if it feels perfect on the inside of my wrist. I too wonder if I get it too warm or too cold. I would guess it's better to err on the side of just a little too cool as opposed to a little too warm.
